These are some of the coins that St. Patrick has appeared on over the past few hundred years.  This halfpenny is an English mint from the 17th century. Based on the nude female on the pillar which was typical of English coins at that time. It depicts St. Patrick with miter and crosier blessing his congregation with a shamrock. Below the Saint Patrick Farthing coppers have a much higher collector’s value. It depicts St. Patrick holding a double cross and walking as if leaving the church in the background. Closer examination of uncirculated examples of both these coins show the face on the reverse, thought of to be King David, is actually that of King Charles I of England. There were 450 different dies used for these coins. Dating them and pinpointing their mints are educated guesses. The halfpennies were used as Colonial American currency in the 1600’s.
